An obscure gem on Emerald Hill, this house delights with its kitsch facade
and interesting doors. Designed in 1903 by M.T. Moh, the conservation efforts
for this house did not go unrecognised, having won a URA conservation award for
conservation.
The Chinese roof and entrance gate were
preserved, as were the doors; with its Chinese calligraphy, Chinese style motifs
and decorative spandrel panels flanking the courtyard.
Lovingly restored to replicate its original
splendour, this conversation gem, neatly tucked away in central Orchard Road
behind an intriguing facade, the details in this shophouse provide an intimation
to the Oriental lifestyle. The grand Chinese doors, the exquisite details, the
landscaped patios- an allusion almost, to the gated concubine community in
'Raise the Red Lantern'.
The interiors have been adapted for modern living- with an open concept
kitchen in the centre of the house.
2-3 bedroom configurations- the ground floor has
the benefit of the central courtyard and patio.
